Urban Olympiad Equipment

This set of objects has been designed inspired in some sports with the aim to emulate them interactively in public spaces and more precisely into the streets, although they can be installed in other contexts like indoors and private spaces.
The designs have been conceived to be attached to existent urban furniture, like lampposts, traffic signals, panels, arrows or whatever other structure that could suit them. They are the evolution of the prototypes designed to set up the installations in the project Playful Interventions In Times of Crisis that will be taken as reference to design the next generation that will perform at Urban Olympiad.



The compact design delivers four versatile attachments in two different sizes, four climb steps, four ring adaptors to install nets and other systems, two pipe adaptors to install boxing bags among other systems, two rope fitters, four rope bands, a bar, two rings and two swings. The swings are the suitcase lids that can be detached for their use.
The product will be available in a wider range of models that will deliver different combination of sports and physical activities by themes.






These objects are the core of the set due to its versatile multifunction that opens the possibility to install a wide range of objects on them. The design has been conceived to be attached at posts, like lampposts or other structures with similar shape, and to be adaptable to different diameters due to its flexibility.




The design of the attachments follows the same system that its prototype predecessor at Playful Interventions In Times Of Crisis, with a set of pulleys installed at the edge of each wing and a rope that connects them. See here how it works.
This image shows the attachment with the climb step application attached to the front of the object, but the design opens the possibility to apply different applications in order to install other objects and systems. Scroll down to see examples.






The climb step applications have been designed to climb poles. The images below shows the installation of four in a lamppost.







The basketball ring or The Dunk performs installed in the attachments that connect it to poles like lampposts. It has been designed with a special size to deliver a balance in between safety and performance. This version delivers a design system that attaches the ball to the ring with a rope too keep it always in place ready to for the next interaction.
This design was developed in order to be installed during the Hackney Wick Festival 2011, to present the first stage of the Urban Olympiad project.









This design delivers a proposal to practice contact sports, like boxing or the martial arts, in public spaces.
The design consists in a couple of balloons that are connected together to get rigidity when the air is inoculated inside.








With a similar design than The Dunk, The Target has been conceived to emulate sport interactions related with the practice of targets, like archery or shooting.
The design consists in a flat spheric board from where are attached three or more balls made with a sticky material like velcro or similar







The rings have been designed as a ‘U’ shape instead of an ‘O’ to save space in the suitcase. Both rings fit one in each other forming the complete ‘O’ when stored in the suitcase and perform as an ‘U’ when installed.
The belt set provided has the function to hang the rings from the structure selected in order to start performing.






To perform some of the net sports like badminton, volleyball or tennis, the attachments are equipped with a ring adapter in order to install the net, which is made from the belt supplied.







As a part of the gymnastic sports it has been designed a dynamic bar that is assembled from two separated pieces. It dismantles when storing in the suitcase.






Although it is not an official sport the swing has been selected by its popularity and its key role in a playground.
They are attached to the suitcase edges and performs as the lids that can be detached for their use.
